A directory of India, organised the way India is
Most event listings are organised by city, which works if you already know where you're going. This one is organised by state and district, because that is how the country is actually addressed.
Visit India lists festivals, melas, concerts, food events, heritage programmes and public gatherings across all 28 states and 8union territories of India. Every one of the 784 districts is listed on its state’s page, and a district gets a page of its own as soon as there is something to put on it.
It is a static site. There is no login, no algorithm deciding what you see, and no paid placement. It is maintained by untitled build.
What gets listed
Anything open to the public, anywhere in India, with a real organiser behind it. Size is not a criterion — a village fair and a festival with a hundred thousand attendees get the same page template.
We don’t list private functions, invite-only events, or anything that exists mainly to sell a course. If we can’t confirm an event is real, we don’t publish it.
Where the listings come from
Two places. Most come from organisers, who email us in a fixed format; a maintainer turns the email into a markdown file and the site rebuilds.
The rest are entries we wrote ourselves for festivals well known enough that the site would look broken without them. Those carry adetails pending marker, and deliberately have no dates, prices or contacts on them — we compiled them from public knowledge, and nobody has confirmed the specifics to us. If you organise one, write in and we will replace our text with yours.
About the district data
India’s districts are not fixed. States create, merge, rename and dissolve them regularly: Andhra Pradesh went from 13 districts to 26 in 2022, Rajasthan added 17 in 2023 and cancelled 9 of them the following year, and renames land with little notice.
So the list here is a maintained snapshot, not an authority. It lives in a single file in the repository, which means a correction is one small edit. If you spot a district that is missing, merged, renamed or gone, tell us and we will fix it — that kind of email is genuinely welcome.
The regional groupings — north, south, east, west, northeast, central, islands — are our own convenience for browsing. They are not administrative divisions, and India has no single official region scheme.
